So there are a couple of precursor data points necessary to understand what comes next:

  1. My nephew and nieces are at the age where they all have boyfriends or girlfriends  Interesting to navigate all on its own.
  2. As Uncle I get to luxuriate a bit in the role of not being the panicked parent while also being able to extol advice, connect, explain things super honestly.  I’m also 10-12 years younger than my sisters so I’m as close in age to the kids as I am to my siblings when you take in to account actual years you can speak and comprehend.  Also, no offense Dawn and Rachel, I’m a bit easier to talk to on certain topics!
  3. My most desired maturity zone would most closely match someone much younger than me, though I have the intellect and discipline to not act that way all the time.

I really like my niece Natalie’s boyfriend Andrew who is also super in to cars and automotive photography.  They came up along with Lexi, we messed around flying the drone, taking pics of my car (see previous post for pics) and having a good time.  Then we (they) decorated my tree.   The video of all of this is below.

The experience did cause me to reflect on my dad a bit — with all due respect to Kathy (his late wife), he was pretty much forced in to this “French Country” living experience that overwhelmed their home.  My dad was more the burl wood clock bachelor pad type of guy for many years (equally awful).  My Christmas tree this year I’m calling the “New Normal” Traditional Christmas tree.  My dad liked modern stuff, and I think if he had made it a few more years, a white Christmas tree might have been just the type of thing he would have loved.  You’ll notice my small “shrine” to my grandfather and father, along with the elf which commemorates my friend Rjay’s death sit right beside.
